The Insight+ Stereo Phase Inverter Bridge

Containing our famous hybrid buffered high slew rate, high drive current solid state circuits, the Insight+ Stereo Phase Inverter Bridge is the ideal low-cost inverter bridge. This multipurpose chassis has a beautiful double-anodized black aluminum faceplate and a black powdercoated rugged steel chassis. It is 17" wide x 12" deep x 3.5" high, shipping weight 13 pounds.

The AVA Insight + Phase Inverter/Bridge provides for directly mono-bridging any pair of common-ground amplifiers for more than tripled single-channel power. The phase inverter/bridge can also be used for balanced line outputs or to drive a second stereo amplifier which is completely isolated from your main amplifier. It works great for remote system or surround sound use.

The bridge has gold-plated left and right line in, left and right line out, and left and right inverted line out jacks. For standard bridging, it is connected to two stereo power amplifiers, one per channel. Each amp is fed a normal signal to one channel and the inverted signal to the other channel. The speakers are connected from the hot terminal on one channel to the hot terminal on the other channel. (The normal ground terminals are not used.) This sums the voltage swing of the two channels, at least triples the power, and eliminates common-mode distortion. Separation, imaging, and dynamics are improved. There is no better way to get such extraordinarily high power.

The Insight+Stereo Phase Inverter Bridge is available factory assembled. An international transformer is available for 220/240V 50/60 Hz use.

The Insight+ bridge is highly recommended for use with all AVA amplifiers and preamplifiers, and with almost all high end equipment available to you.

What our Stereo Phase Inverter Bridge can do for you

The AVA stereo phase inverter bridge can be used to generate a balanced output signal (e.g., for interfacing to balanced inputs commonly found on pro-audio equipment), to connect two stereo amplifiers in a bridged configuration (increasing power by a factor of three or more), or to drive a single stereo amplifier so that power-supply induced crosstalk is reduced. XLR outputs for easy conversion of single ended sources to balanced line output is available as a $200 option.

Configuring two stereo amplifiers for bridged operation is easy. The inverter bridge is supplied with left and right inputs (which connect to your preamp's outputs), left and right non-inverted outputs, and left and right inverted outputs. The inverter bridge outputs are connected to two stereo power amplifiers, one power amp per channel. Each amp is fed a normal signal to one channel and the inverted signal to the other channel. The speakers are connected from the hot terminal on one channel to the hot terminal on the other channel. The normal ground terminals are not used! (Here's a diagram of the connection.) This sums the voltage swing of the two channels, at least triples the power, and eliminates common mode distortion. Separation, imaging, and dynamics are improved. There is no better way to get such extraordinarily high power.

Using an inverter bridge to make a single stereo amplifier sound better is even easier. Run one amplifier channel from an inverted output and the other from a non-inverted output. (Here's a diagram of the connection.) This puts the two amplifier channels out of phase so that the common drain on the power supply is reduced and residual cross-talk between the channels is attenuated. Reverse one loudspeaker connection to get the channels back in phase and enjoy more power, better separation and improved imaging.
